What is the Incontinence Center
The Incontinence Center is located in Alta Vista Regional Hospital’s Urological
Suite. The facility has a state-of-the-art urodynamics laboratory to aid in the
diagnosis of urinary incontinence, bladder diseases in women and men and
prostate diseases in men. A team of experienced physicians and nurses with
specialty training are committed to patient care.
The center works with a number of cross-disciplinary consultants who have a
comprehensive understanding of pelvic floor dysfunction and neurological
diseases.
Treatment options include pelvic floor exercises, administration of pharmaceutical
therapies, and reconstructive surgery
The Incontinence Center provides full diagnostic work-ups and customized
treatment plans for women experiencing urinary incontinence.
Before a customized treatment plan can be developed, the cause or causes of the
incontinence must be identified using a variety of diagnostic evaluations, including
urodynamic studies to identify the type of incontinence; and cystoscopy in which
the internal structures of the bladder and urethra are examined.
Depending on the cause or causes of the incontinence, one or more of the
following treatments may be prescribed. They can include: medical management
using specific medications; medical symptom management and stress reduction;
biofeedback therapy; training by a licensed physical therapist in the clinically
recognized Kegel exercise regimen for strengthening the pelvic muscles; and
surgical intervention to repair or strengthen the pelvic floor.
